How To Get GNU Software

GNU software is available by several different methods:

Order copies on CD-ROM from the FSF. This helps provide the funds for GNU software development.
FTP it from an ftp site near you.
(But please also make a donation to the FSF, if you can, to help us write more free software.)
Get a copy from a friend.
(But please also make a donation to the FSF, if you can, to help us maintain free software.

Descriptions of GNU Software Packages

Here is a list of some GNU programs and FSF software projects, with some information about them.

We would like to list all GNU programs here, but that will take more work. If you would like to write descriptions for other GNU programs, here's what to do!

cfengine, a site configuration engine.
GNU Chess FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).
GNU C Library.
GCC, the GNU C Compiler.
DJGPP, GCC, G++, and GNU utilities for DOS.
GNU Enscript converts ASCII files to Postscript for printing.
GNUscape Navigator, a Web browser that runs as under GNU Emacs.
GNU Ghostscript, an interpreter for the Ghostscript language.
GNUstep and the GNUstep Base Library.
Guile, the GNU extensibility library.
gzip (GNU zip), the file compression program that replaces compress.

Lynx, a text-only Web browser that is GPLed.

Octave, is a high-level interactive language primarily intended for numerical computations.
